AN EXPERT PANEL panel chose GottaGoGolf‘s Top 10 U.S. Golf Resorts for Women 2015. We’d like all women golfers to help us this year, and we’re offering gifts along the way as incentive.
The first stage of the process is nominations. Think about where you’ve been, where your friends have been and where you’d like to go someday. Check out the things our panel really likes in a golf resort, and the things that make us go “Argggh!”
And then consider the following criteria:
- Does the golf resort set at least one forward tee at under 5,200 yards?
- Does the golf resort have multiple tees rated for women?
- What kinds of golf amenities, such as practice facilities, female staff and instructors, on-course restrooms, healthy snack, etc., does the resort offer?
- What other activities are accessible at and around the property?
- How easy is it to get around the golf resort? (Parking, driving, walking, shuttle.)
- How are the accommodations? Do they have features and amenities designed for women?
- Do you get your money’s worth?
- How’s the setting? Is it pretty or do houses and buildings encroach?
- Are there other attributes that make it particularly women friendly? For instance, is it owned and/or run by women, or does it have a history of hosting important tournaments for women?
- Important last year to our panel, how many seasons have good weather for golf?
- And, important last year to a poll of GottaGoGolfers on what makes a golf resort great for women, does the resort have more than 18 holes?
We’re putting our 10 winners of 2015 on a ballot and would like to add 25 more nominees. If you take the time to nominate a golf resort in the comments below by NO LATER THAN JUNE 30, 2016, and tell us why it’s great for women, we’ll email you a code for a free e-reader copy of Confessions of a Golf Slut: A memoir of life, love and The Game for your summer beach bag.
We’ll put the ballot together July 1 and start the voting in the July 6 newsletter, and we’ll have prizes awarded to randomly selected voters who subscribe to GottaGoGolf. So make sure you sign up for our monthly newsletter, share this post on your social media pages and help us select GottaGoGolf‘s Top 10 U.S. Golf Resorts for Women 2016!
Check out last year’s summer issue of GottaGoGolf for descriptions on more great U.S. golf resorts for women. The floor is now open for nominations.
Good one, Karen — they must not do much marketing outside of the neighboring states because they never get mentioned on a national level. Thanks!
I would like to nominate Boca Raton Resort & Club for top resorts for golf for women.
The resort is absolutely beautiful and offers golf and much more.
As the Director of Golf Instruction, and being a woman, we are particularly aware of making the instruction and the golf experience be welcoming.
We have two Golf Magazine Top 100 teachers and are one of the very few resorts to offer this. We also have two female instructors. We offer a daily clinic, private lessons, golf schools and corporate events.
The resort also has a spa and a beach club and wonderful restaurants.
Though only one set of female-rated tees, I do need to give a shoutout to Waldorf Astoria Orlando. Two females (cousin & me) playing as twosome. No assumptions re pace of play. When marshal saw that we were going to be slowed by a group ahead of us, he offered us option at the turn to jump ahead a few holes & then come back and finish 10-12. Excellent service!
Chateau Elan, of Atlanta. Have had two gals’ golf weekends there (24+ attendees). Multiple courses, with shuttle service, female friendly (hosts EWGA events, too), two sets of tees rated for women (tho second is fairly long). Added bonuses of winery and spa were big hits with our crowd, too.
Don’t forget the spa Jenny! And at 5,001 yards from the forward tees, that’s looking good.
Rancho Bernardo Golf resort is heaven for women – great course – manageable Tee Boxes for all handicaps – lots of wide open fairways. Rooms are very nice – separate tubs and showers – shuttle service provided by Resort – Great restaurant- lots of veggies grown on-site – welcoming outdoor patio with view of 18th hole – large fire place. One of the best kept secrets in Southern California.
Four sets of tees rated for women too! Thanks Kristin.
Sewailo Golf Resort, Tucson, AZ
A spectacular female forward golf resort. Very accommodating. Beautiful setting. Great value. Exceptional merchandising for women.
Thank you Linda. Just adding that Turning Stone is in Verona, N.Y. — sort of central/upstate.
Turning stone casino and resort. Female PGA professional on staff(Michele). Three 18 hole courses, one 9 hole and one par 3 executive course. A world class spa on site. Several dining options-from burgers to a five star steak house. Evening entertainment- mostly in the weekends. Accommodations at several price points. It also has an indoor practice facility with simulators if the weather is not cooperating.
Ko Olina Golf Club on Oahu, Hawaii is my vote, I live nearby. It is host of the LPGA LOTTE Championship, previously hosted the LPGA Fields Open. The First Assistant Professional is a female, recently hired, and she teaches a Women Only Get Golf Ready Classes through their golf academy. The course is on Ko Olina resort which has beautiful beaches, a Disney Resort and a Four Seasons Resort which are all women and family friendly. The logo is a ladybug which a lot of people say caters to women too. Ladies locker rooms are good too.
PGA Resort & Spa, Palm Beach Gardens, FL
Wailea golf resort Maui Hawaii
Multiple tee sets especially Emerald course, not just short forward tees, but tees that are rated for all levels of golfer, 3 golf courses, hotels, condos, BEACHES, restaurants.
Kiawah Island , SC 5 courses with at least 2 different tees rated for women, Sanctuary Hotel, 5 star deluxe accommodations and spa. many condos and homes for rent. restaurants on island and off island and Charleston is under an hour drive for non golfing activities.
Online that looks like a great golf club, not resort, which would have lodging.
Keswick hall – Keswick, va
Fabulous golf course – very playable and several sets of tees rated for women. Very playable and no cross hazards in front of the greens. Can’t believe that it’s a Pete dye course (redone about a year and a half ago). 5star accommodations at a hotel with an incredible history- not ostentatious. fabulous menu, spa and attentive staff.
Love Blue Heron Pines in New Jersey
Pros are really great with instruction for women, pro shop has great clothes, clubs, and gear for women, amazing support of Breast Cancer Fund raising and forward Tee’s are well placed.
Bandon Dunes Golf Resort
