Golf bra review: OK, let’s try wires

The BirdieBra™, the ultimate golf bra, is on its way. In the meantime, GottaGoGolf reviews current options on the market for their golfability. Today: the Syrokan Max Control Solid High Impact Plus Size Underwire Sport Bra.

Image of Syrokan Max Control Bra in whitePlenty of Chinese manufacturers make their way onto Amazon, sell a bunch of product and disappear when the one-star reviews kick in. Syrokan has developed a following, however, by producing quality sports bras in a wide range of sizes and colors. These days, you can even find the brand at Walmart and look up its corporate office in Pennsylvania.

The bras, however, come out of the cup capital of the world, Guangzhou, China. I didn’t like the one I tried a few years ago, but Syrokan’s subsequent success made me consider the Max Control Solid High Impact, developed to support ample bosoms. It comes in all sizes from 34C to 46G! I chose white, but there were 10 additional colors! And the price on Amazon seemed just right for a golf bra.

Alas, there were the underwires. We’ve got wireless with everything else in the world — why can’t we do bras that aren’t going to poke us in our backswings? Or make us sweat in August?

Well, I thought I’d at least give it a try. And you know what? The wires didn’t bother me a bit. The stretch of the mesh back panels compensated for the stiff fabric in front enclosing what felt like fairly wide plastic “underwires.” And the two thin layers of polyamide cup fabric seemed cool enough for our hot summer.

Fortunately, I did not have a birdie in the first two rounds wearing this bra, because the thin cup fabric reveals excitement, exertion or a sudden chill. The good news is, there’s decent lift without boob-smushing compression. The bad news, there’s not quite enough coverage for a modest golfer.

A sports bra with non-homicidal wires

Many of us don’t like vegetables, but we eat them because we know they’re good for us. Others of us don’t like underwire bras, but we wear them for the support they give us. Syrokan’s Max Control Solid High Impact bra performs well on the golf course, providing support and cool comfort at a relatively modest price. If it bothers you when your nipples show through your clothes, try wearing it with dark or substantial tops. And don’t forget to eat your vegetables.
